Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan has called for a major protest on November 24, urging his supporters across the country to converge on Islamabad.
This protest is being touted as the "final" call for action by the PTI leader, signalling a decisive push to reclaim what he believes is PTI’s rightful mandate and address various grievances.
Speaking to the media after a visit to her brother in Adiala Jail, Imran's sister, Aleema Khan, emphasized his determination to rally the people.
She shared that Imran Khan had expressed the concern over what he called the "theft" of PTI's electoral mandate in the February 8 elections, accusing the powers that be of hijacking the popular vote and handing it over to a select few.
Aleema Khan said that the former premier also raised concerns over the erosion of judicial independence, claiming that the authority of the Supreme Court (SC) had been severely compromised.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, confirmed the plans for the nationwide mobilisation, with protests not only in Islamabad but across the country and even abroad.
He added that PTI’s leadership would be fully involved in the protest, which he described as a response to the government's alleged mistreatment of the party and its supporters.
The protest will continue until PTI's core demands are addressed, which include reversing the 26th amendment, restoring party’s mandate, and securing the release of detained party members.
The PTI has already set up a committee to organize the march, though the names of those involved have been kept confidential to avoid arrest, according to Chaudhry.
He also revealed that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur will lead a party supporters’ caravan from his province to participate in the protest.
Earlier, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, a spokesman for the provincial government, claimed that the upcoming protest would be a "decisive blow" to the current coalition government, which he described as "illegitimate."
He also argued that the government’s recent wave of arrests, including PTI officials, was a sign of its increasing desperation ahead of Imran Khan's final call to action.
