Senate passes resolution rejecting Indian allegations over Pahalgam attack

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Senate of Pakistan, on Friday, unanimously adopted a resolution that rejected India's allegations linking Pakistan to the recent attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The resolution, moved by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, termed these accusations as unfounded and politically motivated, asserting that they had no basis in fact.

The Senate also pledged to take swift and decisive action in response to any Indian provocations, emphasizing Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty against all forms of aggression, including military threats or water terrorism.

The resolution reiterated Pakistan's commitment to maintaining peace, but made it clear that the nation would not hesitate to protect its security and national interests.

It strongly condemned terrorism in any form and rejected any attempts to associate Pakistan with the Pahalgam attack, highlighting that the killing of innocent civilians is entirely inconsistent with the values upheld by Pakistan.

The Senate condemned the Indian government of orchestrating a malicious campaign aimed at tarnishing Pakistan’s reputation, using the issue of terrorism for narrow political gains.

In addition, the resolution condemned India's unlawful move to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, which it described as a blatant violation of the agreement and an act tantamount to war.

Pakistan also demanded that India be held accountable for its involvement in various acts of terrorism and targeted killings in countries such as Pakistan.

Earlier, DPM Dar updated the Senate on the decisions made by Pakistan’s National Security Committee in response to India’s actions.

He shared that the Foreign Office had briefed the diplomats of 26 countries, including those from the P5 nations, about the situation, with further briefings scheduled for other diplomats.

The foreign minister assured the Senate that Pakistan’s armed forces were fully prepared to respond to any misadventure by India.

Dar warned that Pakistan, as a nuclear and missile power, would react decisively to any provocation, stressing that such actions could destabilize peace and development in the region.

Taking the floor, Leader of the Opposition in Senate, Shibli Faraz, also spoke, asserting that India had consistently sought to undermine Pakistan's interests. He pointed to the arrest of Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav as clear evidence of India's involvement in acts of terrorism within Pakistan.

Senator Aimal Wali Khan condemned the Indian government's actions in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, while Senator Sherry Rehman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) reiterated Pakistan's condemnation of terrorism, emphasizing that Pakistan itself was a victim of such violence.

She further criticized India for its role in terrorist activities within Pakistan and highlighted the ongoing persecution of minorities in India, as well as the blatant human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sherry Rehman also reminded the Senate that Pakistan, as a nuclear power, stood united in its resolve to defend itself against any aggression.

The Senate also passed the Societies Registration Amendment Ordinance 2024, extending it for another 120 days.

Additionally, the Whistleblower Protection and Vigilance Commission Bill, 2025, was introduced and referred to the relevant standing committee for review. The session was adjourned until Monday at 4pm.
