Islamabad (Web Desk): The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Monday issued a notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for attending a ceremony organised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-affiliated Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) held in the federal capital last week.
During his remarks while hearing a civil case against the Punjab government, Justice Qazi Faez Isa said, "The prime minister is the premier of the whole country, not of one particular group.
Why is he misusing the state's resources?" Justice Isa said that the premier participated in the event in a personal capacity. He said that the premier could not align himself with one particular group.
Saying the matter was related to the Constitution and fundamental rights, the judge also issued notices to the attorney general, the Punjab advocate general and the in-charge of the convention centre where the forum was hosted.
Justice Isa referred the matter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed for the constitution of a bench.
Addressing a ceremony hosted by All Pakistan Insaf Lawyers Forum (APILF) in Islamabad on October 9, PM Imran had said that the opposition parties' real issue with the military was that unlike other institutions, they were unable to "control" the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) after the agency "found out" about their alleged corruption.
The premier said that Nawaz Sharif “fought with every army chief” because he wanted to turn the military into Punjab police.
PM Khan mocked Nawaz over his claim that ex-ISI chief Zaheerul Islam had asked him to resign as the prime minister, saying: “Why did he (Islam) say that? And why did you (Nawaz) silently hear that? Because Zaheerul Islam knew how much money you had stolen.”
PM Imran said that Nawaz Sharif’s recent speeches against the military propagate Indian agenda. He added that those who want to protect their corruption will not be allowed to do so.
PM Imran said rule of law is the basis of a civilized society and the State of Madina was also established on the basis of rule of law. He said our country can rapidly progress by adhering to the Quaid's vision that was also rule of law.
“We are proud of our armed forces that have rendered unparalleled sacrifices against war on terror and registered remarkable success against the tide of terrorism,” PM Imran said.
