Lahore (Web Desk): The 17th death anniversary of veteran literary scholar and poet Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi is being observed today (Monday).
Ahmad Shah Awan, commonly known as Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, was born on November 20, 1916 in the village Anga of Khushab district.
He was given pride of performance, Pakistan Academy of Letters' lifetime achievement award, as well as the country's highest civil honour, Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
Qasmi's best-known works include poetry volumes Jalal-o-Jamal, Shola-e-Gul and Disht-e-Wafa, and short story collections Chopaal, Sannata, and Kapaas Ka Phool, Bagolay, Tal-o-Gharoob, Sailab-o-Gardab, Anchal, Ghar Se Ghartak.
His work of short story writing is considered by some critics as second only to Munshi Prem Chand in its depiction of rural culture.
He also served as editor for ‘Imroze’ newspaper as well.
Ahmad Nadeem Qasim died at the age of 89 on July 10, 2006, in Lahore.
