Lahore (Web Desk): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted police physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Punjab health minister Yasmeen Rashid in a case pertaining to May 9 riots.
During the hearing, police informed the court that new charges related to sedition and inciting mutiny have been added to the rioting and hate speech case in connection with rioting and vandalism at Sherpao Bridge.
The investigation officer (IO) prayed to the court to grant further custody of the former Pubjab health minister as she had to be interrogated regarding the additional provisions included in the case.
Approving a five-day physical remand of the PTI leader, the ATC directed the police to produce her in court on September 14 in the case registered at Sarwar Police Station.
Dr Yasmeen Rashid has been arrested multiple times in connection with May 9 protests against PTI chief Imran Khan's arrest and cases were registered against her in difeerent police stations for allegedly attacking military and civil buildings including Lahore's Jinnah House (Corps Commander House), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) office and Askari Tower in Gulberg.
Meanwhile, the police produced fashion designer Khadija Shah before the ATC in a case pertaining to arson at Askari Tower on May 9 and sought her physical remand based on additional provisions included in the case.
The court accepted the request and granted the police further custody of Shah.
Moreover, the ATC sent six others on judicial remand in another case related to the May 9 riots and vandalism.
Accused Tahir Khan, Arbaz, Abdul Hafeez, Faheem Qaiser, Muhammad Gul and Ghulam Abbas, implicated in a case registered at Shadman Police Station, were produced before the court.
The court denied the police's request for physical remand and sent the accused on judicial remand.
