Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): Pakistan's COVID-19 positivity rate dropped to 0.94% in the last 24 hours, marking the first time it dropped below 1% since March 2020 when the government started tracking the data on the pandemic.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,277,560 on Tuesday after 400 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall 472,213 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 441,257 in Punjab, 178,687 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,345 in Balochistan, 107,169 in Islamabad, 10,394 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,495 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 42,373 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 0.94%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,558 with 11 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,226,157 after another 277 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, the NCOC has emphasized on stepping up administration of second dose of COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals so as to sufficiently raise the immunity level of the population for long-term dividends.
The forum met in Islamabad on Tuesday with Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar in the chair to review the progress of nationwide vaccination drive.
Appreciating implementation of obligatory vaccination regime, the minister urged all the federating units to avoid complacency as the threat is yet not over.
Expressing satisfaction over the current stability of the epidemic curve, the forum appreciated people for their responsible compliance to non-pharmaceutical interventions that helped ensure individual as well as collective safety and well-being.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 251.176 million and death toll tops 5,073,715.
