Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umer, who also heads the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), said on Wednesday that Pakistan achieved a major milestone of administering 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
A ceremony marking the achievement was held at the NCOC in Islamabad.
Briefing the media, Asad Umer expressed satisfaction over the vaccination drive.
"We have a long way to go as our target is to vaccinate 70 million people by the end of this year," he said.
The NCOC chief said Pakistan was vaccinating an estimated 300,000 people on a daily basis against the coronavirus, adding that more than 300,000 were registering for the vaccine on a daily basis.
Asad Umar said that the measures taken in the wake of third wave of COVID-19 have shown positive results and there is a visible reduction in the positivity ratio.
He, however, said that 3,000 people are still on critical care in hospitals and the threat is not over yet.
The NCOC chief urged the citizens to actively take part in the country's Covid-19 vaccination drive.
"The quicker the people are vaccinated, the quicker the restrictions will ease," he added.
On the other, hand, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 936,131 on Wednesday after 1,118 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
As per the NCOC data, 43,900 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 2.54%.
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 21,453 with 77 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 869,691 after another 2,244 virus recoveries were reported.
