Arvind Kejriwal loses seat as Indian PM Narendra Modi's BJP wins Delhi election

New Delhi (Web Desk): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his party's triumph in the recent Delhi local elections, declaring that "development and good governance" had prevailed.

His Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to wrest control of the capital from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, who lost his seat in the assembly.

Modi’s remarks underscored the symbolic significance of this victory, as the BJP had not held power in Delhi since 1998.

In a message posted online, Modi assured that his government would focus on the continued development of the city and improving the lives of its residents.

As the results were announced, the BJP’s supporters erupted in celebrations, filling the streets around the party headquarters with cheers, flags, and signs bearing Modi’s image.

Despite the AAP's recent dominance, the BJP’s electoral success reflected a broader national trend.

With the party securing a substantial majority in the 70-seat legislature, senior BJP figures, including Amit Shah, pointed to the outcome as a sign of public confidence in Modi's leadership.

While Kejriwal acknowledged the defeat and congratulated the BJP, the loss marked a significant reversal for his party, which had governed the capital for several terms.

The outcome is seen as a reflection of the Indian electorate’s shifting priorities, as the BJP now seeks to build on this victory and further solidify its influence in the capital.
