Islamabad (Staff Report): The five-year term of President Mamnoon Hussain is ending today (Saturday).
At a special ceremony, he was given a farewell guard of honor by a smartly turned out contingent of the armed forces. The outgoing president also inspected the guard of honor.
Newly elected President Arif Alvi will take oath of office at a ceremony on Sunday. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar will administer oath to him.
Earlier, speaking at his farewell meeting with officers and staff of the President House, Mamnoon Hussain said that the development of the country and prosperity lie in rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.
Mamnoon said he is leaving the presidency after completing his term with "full satisfaction". He said that he left no stone unturned in fulfilling the responsibilities given to him by the people of Pakistan.
The president added that he strictly remained within the constitutional limits and powers during his tenure.
President Mamnoon also thanked his staff for their cooperation in enabling him to fulfill his official duties in an amicable manner.
The president advised his staff to pay special attention towards the education and training of their children for Pakistan's better future and development of the society.
Mamnoon Hussain was elected as the 12th President of Pakistan in July 2013 and since then he addressed the joint parliament for the four times.
Hussain, a 77-year-old textile businessman from Karachi, rose to the presidency during the tenure of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) replacing Asif Ali Zardari, the former president.
