Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government's dedication to advancing Pakistan’s telecommunications sector, stressing the goal of reaching $25 billion in IT exports within the next three years.
During a meeting with a delegation from VEON Group, led by Chairman Augie K. Fabela, the Prime Minister discussed several key initiatives aimed at transforming the country's digital landscape.
One of the major focal points was the government's push to roll out 5G internet services, which will not only provide faster and more reliable connectivity but also extend access to remote regions.
The introduction of 5G is seen as a critical step toward realizing the government’s "Digital Pakistan" vision, which seeks to build a more connected and technologically advanced economy.
Sharif highlighted the significant role the telecommunications sector plays in driving a cashless, digital economy, and commended VEON Group’s subsidiary, Jazz, for its contributions to the country’s telecom and fintech industries.
He also expressed the government's eagerness to explore deeper partnerships with VEON Group in areas such as IT, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence.
The VEON delegation, for its part, praised the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy and noted that Pakistan is emerging as a key destination for investment in the IT and telecommunications sectors.
Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Pervaiz Malik, Coordinator to PM Rana Ehsan Afzal and relevant senior officers attended the meeting.
