Islamabad (Web Desk): Polling will be held on Saturday to elect the 14th President of Pakistan for the next five years.
Polling for the presidential elections will begin at 10am and conclude by 4pm, the Radio Pakistan reported.
Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Asif Ali Zardai, the joint candidate of the ruling coalition, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) nominee Mahmood Khan Achakzai are vying for the office of president.
It is pertinent to mention that the president is elected by an electoral college comprising members of the Senate, National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies. Voting is held through a secret ballot.
A joint session of the Parliament will be convened in Islamabad on Saturday during which the members of the National Assembly and the Senate will exercise their right to vote. Similar sessions will also be held in the provincial assemblies.
