PTI demands unrestricted access to Imran Khan, end to monitoring

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) has called for unrestricted access to its incarcerated leader, Imran Khan, in order to facilitate ongoing critical talks with the government.

The statement came during a press conference of party leaders including, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Omar Ayub, Salman Akram Raja, and Shibli Faraz vowed to continue seeking justice for those affected by the events.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan dismissed the delays in the Al-Qadir Trust case as baseless and politically motivated.

He stated that there was no evidence to support the accusations against Imran Khan, emphasizing that the PTI founder had neither taken money nor harmed the government.

The PTI chairman also expressed disappointment over the government’s response to PTI's attempts at dialogue, highlighting that more than 200 legal cases had been filed against party leaders, and their electoral symbol, the bat, had been unjustly revoked.

Gohar lamented that while PTI had taken steps toward dialogue, the government had shown no genuine interest in resolving the crisis.

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, reiterated the party's demand for a direct meeting with Imran Khan, pointing out the government's failure to address the request.

He mentioned that PTI had established a committee for negotiations and presented an agenda but had yet to receive any substantive response.

Omar called for an independent judicial inquiry into the events of May 9 and November 26, stressing that the PTI founder had shown forgiveness to those who had caused him harm.

He also criticized the government's handling of the economy, particularly the loss of $14 billion in the past two years and the collapse of the manufacturing sector, which, according to him, had significantly weakened the country’s economic prospects.

PTI’s Secretary General, Salman Akram Raja said that Imran Khan was determined to seek justice not only for himself but for all those suffering due to political victimization.

He stressed that PTI’s involvement in the negotiation process was motivated by a desire to guide the country toward prosperity and welfare. Raja firmly stated that the party would not back down from its demands, particularly concerning the investigation into the November 26 events and the alleged electoral irregularities of February 8. He warned that the ongoing violations could lead to the country's downfall if not addressed appropriately.

Speaking on the occasion, Senator Shibli Faraz emphasized the importance of upholding the constitution and the rule of law, suggesting that the delay in the Al-Qadir Trust case undermined both.

He argued that the accusations against Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, regarding the trust were unfounded, as they had not personally benefitted from any charitable activities.

Shibli Faraz expressed concern that the government's refusal to grant fair trials and disregard for the law was destabilizing the nation and sidelining the country's largest political party.
