Nation observes Defence and Martyrs Day with patriotic zeal

Islamabad (Web Desk): Defence and Martyrs Day is being observed today (Friday) to pay tribute to martyrs and Ghazis and reaffirm commitment to defend the motherland against all threats.

On September 6, every year the nation remembers one of its most important historical events. It was on this day in 1965 the Indian forces crossed international border in the darkness of night to attack Pakistan but the nation foiled nefarious designs of the enemy.

As the ground forces of the country continued battling the ruthless Indian forces, the Pakistan Navy and Airforce initiated massive operations.

The battle continued till September 22,1965, when both parties consented to a ceasefire that was overseen by the United Nations (UN).

The motherland’s sovereignty and integrity was defended with valour of brave armed forces, backed by the nation’s courage and determination.

The day dawned with 31-gun salute at the Federal Capital and 21 gun salute at provincial capitals.

Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajar prayer for the progress and prosperity of the country and independence of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

A number of activities will be held across the country, reaffirming the nation’s resolve not to let anyone cast an evil eye at the homeland, achieved on August 14, 1947 after great sacrifices rendered by Muslims of the sub-continent.

Fateha and Quran Khawani will also be held for the martyrs.
