London (Web Desk/Agencies): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday joined a galaxy of foreign royals, officials and heads of state and governments, to witness the coronation of King Charles III – a symbolic ceremony of religious service and royal pageantry.
The prime minister arrived at the Westminster Abbey along with other foreign dignitaries, heads and representatives of Commonwealth member countries to witness the coronation of King, who is being crowned along with Camilla, the Queen Consort. King Charles III, will become the 40th reigning monarch crowned there since 1066.
The ceremony is marked by ceremonial pomp and formality featuring centuries old traditions.
The Coronation is the first occasion in 70 years that a British monarch will be ascending the throne. Over 400 VVIPs including 100 heads of states and governments are attending the event.
King Charles III ascended the throne on 8th September 2022 following the death of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif interacted with King Charles III and Prime Minister of Britain Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the meeting of other leaders of Commonwealth countries in London, the Radio Pakistan reported.
According to the Prime Minister's office (PMO), the premier felicitated both the British dignitaries for the excellent arrangements made for the elaborate two-day ceremonies being held to celebrate the coronation of the new King.
PM Shehbaz also expressed deep appreciation for the UK's generous assistance in the wake of the disastrous floods that struck Pakistan in 2022.
He suggested that both countries needed to enhance the bilateral relations in various fields. In this regard, the premier proposed the establishment of a joint commission that would be headed by the leaders of the two countries.
King Charles III and the British PM Rishi Sunak also showed their interest in further strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries and praised the Pakistan community based in the UK for its role in the development of the UK.
