Islamabad (Web Desk): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday felicitated Masoud Pezeshkian on his election as the president of Iran.
In a statement, President Zardari extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on his election as the President of Iran.
“Pakistan and Iran enjoy fraternal ties and I hope that under your leadership our relations will grow further stronger,” the president said.
He expressed his eagerness to work together for the peace and prosperity of the region.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Pezeshkian.
In a post on social media platform X, the premier said he looked forward to working closely with the president-elect to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran bilateral ties and promote regional peace and stability
“As neighboring countries, Pakistan & Iran enjoy a close & historic relationship. We must ensure a bright future for our two peoples through mutually beneficial cooperation,” PM Shehbaz wrote.
Reformist candidate Pezeshkian won Iran’s runoff presidential election on Friday securing 53.7% of the votes after defeating hardliner Saeed Jalili.
With the turnout reported to be around 50% on Friday, around 30 million Iranians cast their vote of which Pezeshkian received more than 16 million, whereas Jalili secured around 13 million votes, whereas around 600,000 ballots were declared "spoiled".
