Lisbon (Web Desk): Prince Rahim al-Hussaini, the eldest son of the late Prince Karim Al-Husseini, Aga Khan IV, has assumed the role of the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community following the unsealing of his father's will.

The announcement, made just a day after the passing of Prince Karim on February 4th, marks the beginning of a new era for both the Ismaili community and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

The late Aga Khan IV, who passed away at the age of 88 in Lisbon, Portugal, was widely revered for his dedication to improving global development, particularly in some of the world’s most underserved regions.

Under his leadership, the AKDN expanded its reach through initiatives in healthcare, education, and economic development.

The Aga Khan’s legacy as a philanthropist and influential business figure helped position the Ismaili community as a global force for good.

His investments in sectors like airlines, media, and hospitality further cemented his place among the world's wealthiest and most influential hereditary leaders.

As the new Imam, Prince Rahim is expected to carry forward his father’s work. His commitment to social causes, particularly environmental sustainability, has been a cornerstone of his leadership style.

He has long been involved in the AKDN’s environmental and climate change efforts, aiming to combat ecological degradation and advocate for responsible development practices.

Prince Rahim’s path to spiritual leadership was shaped by a robust education and international exposure.

After graduating from Brown University, he has focused much of his career on advancing the well-being of the Ismaili community, particularly through initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, and poverty reduction.

As a member of the AKDN’s governing bodies, he has been instrumental in developing policies that prioritize the most vulnerable populations.

His personal commitment to public service was recognized in 2022, when he received Pakistan's highest civilian honour, the Nishan-i-Pakistan.

As he steps into the role of Imam, Prince Rahim is poised to address the changing needs of the Ismaili community, with a focus on sustainable growth and global transformation.

The community, which spans over 35 countries and includes millions of members, faces both challenges and opportunities that Prince Rahim is prepared to navigate, continuing his father’s remarkable legacy of service to humanity.
