Lahore (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed the government's determination to completely eliminate terrorism from Pakistan, stressing the immense costs the country has incurred in its fight against militancy.
Addressing the closing session of the 7th Maritime Security Workshop held at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, the premier highlighted that Pakistan has suffered significantly due to terrorism, with over 80,000 lives lost and billions of dollars in economic damages.
He pointed out that while the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government succeeded in reducing terrorism by 2018, the threat has unfortunately resurfaced in recent times.
PM Shehbaz emphasized that the government would not rest until terrorism is entirely eradicated from the country.
He mentioned the continuous efforts being made through the Apex Committee, which has held multiple meetings to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
PM Shehbaz also paid tribute to the brave sacrifices of Pakistan's armed forces, assuring that their dedication to safeguarding the country’s security would never go unrecognized.
Turning to maritime security, the prime minister lauded the capabilities of the Pakistan Navy, noting that its personnel are highly skilled and committed to addressing a wide range of threats, making the Navy a powerful force capable of securing the nation's waters.
He also spoke about the strategic importance of the blue economy, asserting that Pakistan’s progress and prosperity depend on the effective utilization of its marine resources.
PM Shehbaz acknowledged China’s support in strengthening Pakistan's maritime sector, underscoring that the completion of the Gwadar Port project will unlock significant economic opportunities for the country, contributing to its long-term prosperity.
