Govt approves deployment of Pakistan Army ahead of SCO summit in Islamabad

Islamabad (Web Desk): The federal government on Friday approved deployment of Pakistan Army personnel in Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution to maintain law and order with regard to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the army troops will assist the district administration in maintaining law and order from October 5 to October 17 with respect to the 23rd meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Heads of Government and visits of VVIP delegations for the event.

The army will be responsible for the security of the federal capital with support from the police and other agencies.

Pakistan is all set to host the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting on October 15 and 16 in Islamabad with major foreign leaders, including Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visiting the country.
