Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Thursday rose to 85,264 after 4,688 new infections were reported over the past 24 hours.
Overall, 31,104 cases were reported in Punjab, 32,910 in Sindh, 11,373 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5,224 in Balochistan, 824 in Gilgit Baltistan, 3,544 in Islamabad, and 285 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 1,770 with 82 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours while at least 30,128 patients have fully recovered.
The number of coronavirus cases has continued to soar despite the country remained under a lockdown nearly one and a half month.
Meanwhile, Information Minister Shibli Faraz on Wednesday appealed to the people to strictly follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the face of rising cases of COVID-19 otherwise the government will be compelled to again enforce the lockdown.
Addressing a news conference along with Parliamentary Secretary for Railways Farrukh Habib in Islamabad, the information minister regretted that the people did not follow the precautionary measures in the wake of easing of restrictions.
Shibli Faraz said the government is pursuing a very well organized and coordinated strategy to curb the spread of the contagion. This is the reason the corona cases are less to our estimates.
The minister said all the relevant departments are working in close coordination to address the issue of locusts.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 6.43 million and death toll tops 380,000.
