Islamabad (Staff Report): Today (Saturday) is the last day for the winning candidates in general election to submit details of expenses incurred on their electoral campaign to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
According to a statement issued by ECP, the electoral body will issue official notifications of all successful candidates in General Election 2018 by August 9.
However, notifications of the winning candidates who fail to share their expense declarations will be withheld, the statement added.
The statement further said that the returning officers have finalised the Form 49 which tabulates consolidated results including postal ballots.
After the successful conditions are notified, independent candidates will have three days to join a party.
The election commission will issue notifications of successful candidates from reserved seats after it determines the strength of all political parties in the national and provincial assemblies by August 7.
The session of the Nation Assembly will be called after the notification of the successful candidates by the electoral body.
The Speaker of the National Assembly and the prime minister will be elected after the oath taking of the successful candidates.
Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the majority party in the National Assembly of Pakistan by securing 115 followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz with 64 seats out of total 342 seats in the general elections on July 25.
Pakistan Peoples' Party secured 43 seats while number of National Assembly (NA) seats won by the other parties is as above: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) 12, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) 4, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) 6, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) 4, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) 2, Awami Muslim League (AML) 1, Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) 1, Awami National Party (ANP) 1 and Balochistan National Party (BNP) 3.
Thirteen independent candidates have also been elected to the National Assembly. Election on two of the total two hundred and seventy-two seats to be directly elected in general election had been postponed.
PTI’s spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday said that his party has gained the support of 176 MNAs, four more than the mandatory 172 MPs or 51pc.
He claimed that the PTI will form the government in Centre and Punjab.
