Islamabad (Web Desk): A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and several other leaders in a case registered at Aapbara Police Station for protesting against Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) case.

During the hearing today, Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood announced the reserved verdict.

The court also acquitted other leaders including Asad Qaiser, Shehryar Afridi, Faisal Javed, Raja Khurram Nawaz and Ali Nawaz Awan and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad.

PTI lawyers, Sardar Masroof and Ansar Kayani, made the arguments in the case on behalf of the former premier and others.

A case was registered against Imran Khan and other politicians for protesting against outside ECP offices across Pakistan after the electoral body disqualified the PTI founder in the Toshakhana case.

The PTI founder has been in jail since last August 2023 and was convicted in some cases ahead of the general elections on February 8 this year.
