Rawalpindi (Web Desk): An accountability court in the federal capital on Tuesday approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi’s pre-arrest bail in a £190 million reference case.
Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich presided over the hearing at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
During the hearing, the court recorded statements of three witnesses.
So far, statements of 30 witnesses have been recorded in the case, of which, 27 have gone through cross-examination.
The lawyer of NAB also apprised the court that the arrest warrant for the former first lady has not been issued yet.
The court summoned more witness on next hearing and adjourned the hearing till July 5.
The development comes after a two-member Islamabad High Court (IHC) bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri had approved Imran Khan's bail plea in the said case in May.
The former premier, along with his wife and other party leaders, are facing a NAB inquiry related to a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, which reportedly caused a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer.
Earlier on June 29, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) challenged the post-arrest bail granted to Imran in a £190 million reference case in the Supreme Court (SC).
In its plea, the NAB requested the top court to overturn the Islamabad High Court’s verdict of May 14, which had granted bail to Imran Khan.
The accountability watchdog also requested the court to suspend the IHC’s decision until a final ruling is made on the appeal.
