Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan has embarked on a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for 2025-2026.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday hosted a reception for the heads of resident missions of UNSC member states at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to working collaboratively with all UNSC members and the broader UN community.
Addressing the event, he said that that Pakistan would aim to "bridge divides, foster consensus, and uphold the UNSC’s mandate in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter."
FM Dar said that that this was Pakistan’s eighth term on the UNSC, bringing with it a "rich legacy of experience" and a steadfast commitment to the core values of the UN.
He highlighted the nation’s substantial contributions to international peace and security, notably through Pakistan's active participation in UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding missions around the world.
Dar also stressed that Pakistan would work towards the "just and peaceful resolution" of issues on the UNSC agenda, making it clear that the country’s stance would continue to be rooted in upholding the principles of the UN Charter.
"As a member of the Council, Pakistan will continue to oppose the unilateral and illegal use or threat of force; combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations; and support effective UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts," he said.
FM Dar concluded by expressing his gratitude to all UN member states for their "resounding support" in electing Pakistan to the UNSC, an honour that highlights the country’s ongoing role and responsibility in shaping global peace and security.
