Islamabad (Web Desk/Agencies): Pakistan and India on Wednesday swapped the lists of their respective nuclear installations and facilities, in accordance with the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attacks on Nuclear Installations and Facilities.
This bilateral understanding, which was signed on December 31, 1988, mandates both nations to exchange details of their nuclear infrastructure on January 1 each year.
The Pakistani government provided a list of its nuclear installations to a representative from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Simultaneously, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs presented the list of India’s nuclear facilities to a representative of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Since the agreement came into effect on January 27, 1991, the exchange of these lists has been carried out annually since January 1, 1992, serving as a key measure in maintaining transparency and reducing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
