Islamabad (Web Desk): A banking court in Islamabad extended former premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan's interim bail in a prohibited funding case till November 10.
According to details, Judge Rakshanda Shaheen approved PTI chief's plea for exemption from appearance in the case.
Khan's counsel appeared before the court and filed plea seeking the former premier's exemption from appearance, saying his client is in the Punjab capital leading the Azadi March, and cannot appear before the court today.
After the arguments, the court reserved its verdict and later extended the interim bail of the former prime minister until November 10.
The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) Commercial Banking Circle in the federal capital had filed a case against PTI leaders including party chief Imran Khan, the party’s financial team, and a manager of a private bank in the prohibited funding case.
As per the first information report (FIR), the PTI leaders violated the Foreign Exchange Act and they were declared as the beneficiaries of suspicious bank accounts.
The FIA claimed that Abraaj Group also transferred $2.1 million to the bank accounts of the PTI.
In August this year, the FIA kicked off its probe against the PTI after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had declared in its verdict that the party had received illegal funding.
The case had been filed by PTI's founding but disgruntled member Akbar S Babar and had been pending since November 14, 2014.
The ECP's written order stated that the political party had received illegal funds from foreign countries including the United States (US), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom (UK) and Australia.
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court also extended Imran Khan's interim bail till November 9 in the terror case registered against him for violating section 144 and interference in the matters of the state.
PTI chief's lawyer Babar Awan appeared in the court.
The court heard the bail application in the terrorism case that was registered Tarnol police station.
Babar Awan filed a request seeking former premier's exemption from the court's hearing which was approved by the court.
The court accepted the plea adjourned the hearing till November 9.
