Islamabad (Web Desk): The consultation process by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) with different political parties regarding the delimitation of constituencies and next general elections is in progress.
According to details, delegations of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-(MQM-P) and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) separately participated in the consultative meetings held in Islamabad today with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair.
The MQM-P delegation was led by Dr Farooq Sattar, while Ameer-ul-Azeem represented the Jamat-e-Islami (JI), the Radio Pakistan reported.
The MQM-Pakistan supported ECP's decision of undertaking fresh delimitation of constituencies.
It said that next general election should be held after ensuring delimitation of constituencies as per results of the latest census.
However, the JI delegation demanded the electoral body to announce election schedule along with the delimitation of constituencies.
The ECP assured the delegations that elections will be held immediately after completion of delimitation process.
The electoral body ensured completion of delimitation of constituencies and updating of electoral rolls simultaneously.
On the occasion CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja appreciated the proposals of the political parties and said that the ECP will give them due consideration.
Talking about the code of conduct, he said that all the political parties will be consulted again on this matter.
The CEC said that monitoring of the polling process will be ensured for which a state of the art Monitoring Control Room had been established.
As part of its ongoing consultation process, the ECP had extended invitation to mainstream parties for discussions on the election roadmap.
Earlier on August 25, a delegation of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) visited the ECP to hold to hold consultations on the election process.
The consultative meeting was chaired by CEC Sikander Sultan Raja.
The electoral body had had assured the visiting delegation that equal opportunities will be ensured for all contesting parties, besides ensuring transparency and impartiality.
