Multan (Web Desk): Pakistan extended their lead to 202 runs against the West Indies on the second day of the first Test in Multan as their spinners dismantled the visitors' batting line-up.
A clinical performance from the Pakistani bowlers, led by Sajid Khan and Noman Ali, left the West Indies reeling in their first innings.
As Pakistan began their second innings, Shan Masood and Muhammad Huraira opened the batting.
Huraira made 29 before falling to Jomel Warrican, and Babar Azam's stay was even shorter, dismissed for just five. Masood and Kamran Ghulam briefly steadied the ship, but Masood was also dismissed for 52, leaving Pakistan at 106-3.
The day's play was interrupted by bad light, and stumps were called with Pakistan on 109-3.
Earlier, in the first innings, the West Indies had no answer to Pakistan's spin attack, with only tailender Warrican offering any resistance.
He top-scored for his side with 31 runs, but the rest of the batting was swept aside, as the visitors were dismissed for 127.
Sajid Khan and Noman Ali were the standout bowlers, picking up key wickets to leave the West Indies in tatters.
Pakistan's response began cautiously, but a middle-order collapse saw them lose six wickets for just 87 runs.
After resuming at 143-4, they struggled against the spinners. Kevin Sinclair and Jomel Warrican were instrumental in Pakistan's downfall, with Sinclair taking 2-61 and Warrican claiming 3-69.
Despite solid contributions from Saud Shakeel (84) and Mohammad Rizwan (71), Pakistan was bundled out for 230.
The partnership between Shakeel and Rizwan, worth 141 runs, had briefly lifted Pakistan from a precarious position, but the late-order collapse left them with a slender advantage.
West Indies’ bowlers, particularly the spinners, made inroads quickly as Pakistan's tail was quickly exposed.
Jayden Seales had earlier taken three wickets in the first innings, including crucial breakthroughs, but the West Indies' batting was never able to recover from the initial damage caused by Pakistan's spinners.
