Washington: The US State Department has urged the Afghan Taliban to ensure that the terrorist attacks are not launched from their soil.
In response to a query seeking his comments on a recent terrorist attack in Pakistan, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said: “We do continue to urge the Taliban to ensure that terrorist attacks are not launched from the Afghan soil.”
The spokesperson said that it had been a priority for the US in engagements with them, and it continues to be. He reiterated that the Pakistani people have suffered greatly at the hands of violent extremists and terrorists.
“We have a shared interest with the Pakistani people and the government of Pakistan in combating threats to regional security,” he added.
At least eight soldiers of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom as security forces effectively thwarted a terrorist attack at Bannu Cantonment killing all 10 militants, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Tuesday.
Pak Army’s media wing, in a statement, said that a group of ten terrorists attacked the cantonment yesterday in the early hours of morning.
The attempt to enter the cantonment was effectively thwarted by the security forces personnel, which forced the terrorists to ram an explosive laden vehicle into perimeter wall of the cantonment.
The suicide blast led to collapse of portion of the wall and damaged the adjoining infrastructure, resulting in martyrdom of eight security personnel.
In the ensuing operation, the troops effectively engaged the terrorists as a result of which all ten terrorists were killed.
