Lahore (Staff Report): The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday barred Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz Sharif from leaving the country.
Hamza was offloaded from a plane of Qatar Airways, 620, bound for Doha.
Hamza, along with his younger brother Salman Shehbaz, is facing the NAB’s investigations regarding assets beyond income and had sought protective bail from the Lahore High Court (LHC).
On Monday, an accountability court granted a one-day transit remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif to attend the National Assembly (NA) session.
A request was submitted in the NAB court on behalf of the jail superintendent for Shehbaz's transit remand.
The plea stated that the opposition leader has to be taken to Islamabad to attend the session of the NA.
Approving the jail superintendent's request, the court granted one-day transit remand of the PML-N president.
Earlier, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and concerned authorities to bring Shahbaz Sharif to Islamabad attend the session on daily basis under the rules.
On December 6, Shehbaz Sharif was brought to the court after his physical remand ended. The NAB authorities sought a 15-day extension in the physical remand of Shehbaz Sharif.
However, the court rejected the request as the NAB prosecutor failed to provide satisfactory answers and ordered to send the former Punjab CM to jail.
Shehbaz Sharif was arrested on October 5 in the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case after he appeared before NAB in the Punjab Saaf Pani Company scam.
