Lahore (Web Desk): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday alleged that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) a "vague call-up notice" in order to cause her harm.
Addressing a press conference along with senior PML-N leaders, including former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah, Marriyum Aurangzeb and others, Maryam Nawaz said that the peaceful and unarmed party workers were injured in tear gas shelling and stone pelting by police.
The PML-N leader termed the incident an act of “state-sponsored terrorism" witnessed by her personally.
“For the first time I saw stoning and NAB-gardi and tear-gas shelling but the workers remained steadfast,” she said.
The PML-N's vice president said that despite the shelling and the injuries, the workers stood by her.
Maryam said that said she received NAB’s summons day before yesterday and alleged that the anti-corruption watchdog had leaked the information to media about the notice.
She added that there is no allegation in the notice and read out the summons in front of media persons. She said the reason to call me on this vague notice was to harm me.
Maryam Nawaz said that she also received a message to go back, the NAB did not open the door, and they remained hidden.
“I stood outside the NAB door and asked them to take my reply but they did not open the NAB office door,” she added.
She said that police hurled stones on her bulletproof vehicle which damaged the windscreen. “Had it not been a bulletproof car, I would have been hit on my head.”
Earlier, the PML-N workers and police clashed outside the Bureau's office ahead of Maryam Nawaz’ appearance before anti-graft body in a case pertaining to illegal transfer of 200 acres of land in Raiwind.
Responding to Maryam’s allegations, NAB Lahore said in a press release that it had summoned the PML-N vice president to hear her stance on the case registered against her.
However, the Bureau alleged that PML-N workers pelted stones and were involved in 'hooliganism' at the time of her appearance.
The anti-graft watchdog said that it had been treated like this for the first time in the 20 years since the Bureau had been created, stating that its building's windows had been broken and staffers injured.
It announced that proceedings against Maryam had been postponed and it condemned PML-N workers for interfering in legal matters in an 'organised' way.
The Bureau said that it will register FIRs against PML-N representatives and leaders for interfering in the legal process.
The anti-graft watchdog had summoned Maryam on August 11 and asked her to bring details of 1,400 kanals she allegedly acquired in Raiwind in 2013 in violation of rules.
NAB had sought complete details regarding the sale and purchase of land and asked the PML-N leader from where and when the funds for acquiring the land were arranged.
Maryam Nawaz was also required to submit details of duty and tax payment for the purchase of the said land along with particulars for the sale of any of its portions.
