Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday said that party founder Imran Khan has given the go-ahead for submitting their demands in writing to the government, as part of ongoing discussions aimed at easing political tensions.
The decision comes in the wake of escalating conflicts between PTI and the government, which have worsened since Imran Khan’s multiple arrests last year. The political environment has been charged with protests and violence, exacerbated by heavy state repression.
Following the tensions, Imran Khan had set up a five-member committee tasked with holding talks with all relevant parties, signaling a shift in PTI’s approach to negotiations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, responded by forming a negotiating team representing the government.
The two sides have met twice so far—once on December 23 and again on January 2—though the discussions have yet to yield substantial progress.
After a recent meeting with Imran Khan, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan revealed that PTI would now present two specific demands in writing.
While he noted that there was no necessity to do so, the decision was made to avoid using any delay in submission as a reason to stall the talks.
Gohar emphasized that Imran Khan had approved this course of action, encouraging the party to move forward with presenting the demands in a formal manner.
When asked about comments made by Imran’s sister, Aleema Khan, who suggested that her brother had received various offers from government sources through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Gohar downplayed the significance of these claims.
He asserted that PTI had not acted on any offers from the other side during their ongoing interactions, reiterating that the party’s engagement in the talks was driven solely by a desire to resolve issues for the country, not for the sake of striking deals.
