Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday set aside the objections raised by the registrar office on former premier and PTI chairman Imran Khan’s plea against the recent amendments made by the coalition government to the National Accountability law.
Top court judge Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan resumed the in-chamber hearing of Khan’s appeal against the objections raised by the registrar’s office.
Khan’s counsel Khawaja Haris appeared before the court. The judge overruled the objections after hearing the arguments, and ordered to number the petition and fix it for hearing in open court.
Earlier, the top court’s registrar office in their objection stated that the petitioner had not highlighted what matter of public importance was involved regarding the enforcement of fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution so as to directly invoke the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 184(3).
“The ingredients for involving extraordinary jurisdiction of this court under Article 184(3) of the constitution have not been satisfied,” the office stated.
The office also objected that the petitioner had not approached the appropriate forum available under the law and had also not provided any justification for not doing so.
