Rights activist, lawyer Jibran Nasir ‘abducted’ says his wife Mansh Pasha

Karachi (Web Desk): Renowned rights activist and lawyer Jibran Nasir, has gone missing after unidentified armed men abducted him from near his residence in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Thursday night, his wife Mansha Pasha said.

According to Mansha Pasha, she was present in the car when the incident occurred after they were returning from a dinner.

In her video statement, Pasha said that at least 15 heavily armed men in multiple vehicles including a white Vigo encircled their vehicle and forcibly took Jibran with them.

Appealing for public support, Mansha Pasha requested people to stand in solidarity with her husband and pray for his safe and swift return.

Hours after the advocate was "picked up" from DHA, police registered a "kidnapping" case of Jibran Nasir on the complaint of his wife, Mansha Pasha.

The news of Nasir’s abduction quickly spread, prompting numerous individuals and human rights organizations to condemn the incident.

In a post on Twitter, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) expressed its worry.

The HRCP said it is deeply concerned by reports of the abduction of lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir by unknown armed persons in Karachi.

"We demand his immediate and safe recovery, and that those responsible for the abduction be held accountable under the law,” the rights body said.

Special Assistant to the Prime minister (SAPM) Salman Sufi termed the news “disturbing” and hoped that the Sindh police would assist the lawyer’s family.

“Jibran has always spoken against violent extremism and rioting. Hoping for his safe and immediate return,” Sufi tweeted.
