India beat South Africa by 7 runs to win T20 World Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados (Web Desk): India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final at the Kensington Oval Barbados, on Saturday.

Batting first after winning the toss, India scored 176 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in allotted 20 overs.

In reply, South Africa could only score 169 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in stipulated overs.

India's first and second wicket fell on a total score of 23 runs, captain Rohit Sharma was caught out after scoring 9 runs.

Rishabh Pant returned to the pavilion without opening his account. India had to bear the third loss on a total score of 34 runs when Surya Kumar Yadav was caught out after scoring 3 runs. India's fourth wicket fell on 106 runs after Akshar Patel was run out scoring 47 runs. Virat Kohli was dismissed for 76 runs on a total score of 163 runs.

In the last over, Shivam Dubey got out for 27 and Ravindra Jadeja scored 2 runs. Hardik Pandya remained not out with 5 runs.

For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj and Enrich Noortje took 2 wickets each while Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jensen got 1 wicket each.

Chasing the target, South Africa's Henry Klaasen scored 52 runs, Quinton de Kock scored 39 runs and Tristan Stubbs scored 31 runs.

Reese Hendricks and Aiden Markram scored 4 runs each, Marco Jensen 2 and Kagiso Rabada scored 4 runs, Keshav Maharaj scored 2 runs and Enrich Noortje remained not out with 1 run.

For India Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets, Arsdeep Singh and Jaspreet Bumrah got 2 wickets each while Axar Patel dismissed one player.

Jasprit Bumrah was declared the player of the tournament for his brilliant bowling in the tournament as he took 15 wickets in eight matches while Virat Kohli was declared the man of the match for his innings of 76 runs in the final.

After defeating South Africa, India joined England and the West Indies to win the T20 World Cup title two times after winning their first in 2007 by defeating Pakistan in the final.
