Mumbai (Web Desk): At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a powerful explosion at an ordnance factory in India’s western state of Maharashtra on Friday.
The explosion occurred in Bhandara district, around 830 kilometers from Mumbai.
The factory, which is responsible for producing explosives and propellants, was the site of the deadly blast, which left many workers trapped inside.
Emergency teams, including medical and rescue personnel, were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The state’s chief minister confirmed that a part of the factory collapsed as a result of the blast, and some workers are still believed to be trapped under the debris.
While initial reports indicate that eight people have died and seven are injured, the situation remains fluid as the search and rescue operations continue.
The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, though authorities are investigating all possibilities.
The blast has prompted widespread concern, as such incidents in factories dealing with hazardous materials can lead to significant loss of life and damage.
Local officials have promised to provide further updates as the situation develops.
