Over 350 Pakistani students return home from Bishkekreturn as govt downplays Kyrgyz unrest

Lahore: More than 350 Pakistani students stranded in Bishkek amid mob attacks on foreign nationals, landed at Lahore and Islamabad airport.

At the Islamabad airport, the students who arrived via the KA 4575 flight, were welcomed by federal minister Musadik Malik.

In Lahore, the students were greeted by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar as the KA 6571 flight reached the airport.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the Pakistani envoy to ensure all possible arrangements for the return of “injured students” as well as those residing with their families despite the “return of normalcy” in Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs Amir Muqam’s Bishkek visit postponed.

Dar, in a press conference, downplayed the mob violence in the Central Asian state, saying the situation in Bishkek was normal and there was no need to panic.

In a statement on her X handle, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch said the Pakistan embassy has opened emergency helplines and is responding to queries of students and their families.
