Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants issued against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The petition was filed by Gandapur's lawyer, Muhammad Faisal Malik, who argued that the Peshawar High Court (PHC) had already granted bail to the chief minister in all related cases.
The lawyer presented the PHC’s order, after which the ATC to suspend the arrest warrants and halt the proceedings to declare Gandapur a proclaimed offender.
The arrest warrants were issued in connection with a case related to the violent May 9 protests that shook Pakistan last year.
These protests, which erupted after the arrest of PTI founder and former premier Imran Khan, saw widespread unrest and attacks on key military and civilian institutions, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The violence was part of a larger series of demonstrations organized by the PTI.
In response to the protests, the military declared May 9 as a "Black Day" and announced that those involved would be prosecuted under the Army Act. This resulted in numerous PTI leaders and supporters being arrested for their role in the attacks on military installations and other public property.
