Islamabad (Staff Report): The National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) executive board on Friday decided to investigate corruption allegations and misuse of authority against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
According to reports, the board will also investigate the retired general for "wrongful use of power."
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had ordered the NAB to investigate former army chief for allegedly accumulating assets beyond his known means of income.
The former president was previously protected from prosecution due to his being a serving military officer and also head of state.
The matter was taken to the IHC by retired Lt Col Inamur Rahim in 2014, who sought a probe into the alleged corruption done by Musharraf.
The petitioner also alleged that Musharraf “injected corruption into the senior hierarchy of the armed forces by allotting them plots over and above their entitlements”.
A two-member bench of the IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb ruled that the former military dictator is amenable to be proceeded, investigated, tried and convicted under the NAB Ordinance of 1999 if there is evidence that he committed an offence.
