Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday launched the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.
Addressing the launching ceremony in Islamabad, the PM said that 25,000 housing units will be constructed in the federal capital, 1,10,000 in Balochistan and 6,000 in Azad Kashmir.
He said that a revolving fund of five billion rupees had been established to grant microcredit to poor people enabling them to have their own house.
“High rise residential buildings will be constructed for people living in katchi abadis across Pakistan”, PM Khan said.
He said commercial buildings will also be constructed on city slum so that economic activity can be generated.
“There are about 40 slums areas in Karachi only and no one has ever paid any attention to uplift poor people living there”, he added.
Khan said that a Chinese Company has offered to set-up a pre-fabricated factory in Pakistan with a capacity to construct one story in a week.
"We are trying to involve private sector in the housing sector and facilitate our youth to come forward in the construction arena", the PM said.
Under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme, at least 135,000 housing units will be built across the country in the first phase. About 25,000 apartments will be built in Islamabad for federal government employees and 110,000 apartments will be constructed in Balochistan for fishermen of Gwadar.
Special segments, including widows, orphans, transgenders, martyrs’ families and people living in war-against-terror hit areas would be given priority under the house financing scheme.
