Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Babar Sarfraz Alpa on Thursday said that 32 cases were registered in connection with November 24th violent protest by a political party.
In a joint press conference with Rawalpindi’s City Police Officer (CPO) and the District Police Officer (DPO) of Attock, Alpa revealed that a total of 1,151 individuals had been arrested in connection with the unrest, including 64 Afghan nationals, whose identities were confirmed through data verification.
According to Alpa, the protest became increasingly violent, with demonstrators engaging in direct gunfire aimed at law enforcement personnel.
Despite this, the police exercised considerable restraint, ensuring that no protestors were harmed in Rawalpindi.
On the other hand, 170 police officers, including several senior-ranking officials, sustained injuries during the confrontations, and numerous police vehicles were damaged.
CPO Rawalpindi said that that some protestors escalated the violence further by attempting to run over police officers with their vehicles.
Meanwhile, DPO Attock reaffirmed that all individuals involved in the violent actions would face legal action, underscoring that "the law will take its course against those responsible."
