Rawalpindi (Web Desk): The 50th martyrdom anniversary of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today (Friday).
Sawar Hussain was born on 18th January, 1949 at Jatli village in Gujar Khan. He was the first soldier to be awarded Nishan-e-Haider.
In a message on Twitter, Directorate General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar paid rich tribute to Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on his 50th Martyrdom anniversary for his supreme sacrifice in Zafarwal-Shakargarh Sector, in 1971.
He said Sowar Muhammad Hussain's fearless actions inflicted heavy losses on enemy, destroying 16 Indian tanks, thus proving that courage knows no bounds.

Sowar Muhammad Hussain was born on June 18, 1949 in Dhok Pir Bakhsh (now Dhok Muhammad Husain Janjua). On 3 September 1966 he was enrolled as a driver and after training joined 20 Lancers.
During 1971 war, Sowar Muhammad Hussain took an active part in every battle with the unit. He spotted the enemy tanks close to a minefield near the village Harar Khurd. At his own initiative he directed accurate fire of recoilless rifles, resulting in the destruction of sixteen enemy tanks.
During the battle, he received a burst of machine-gun in the chest and embraced martyrdom on 10 December 10, 1971.
