United Nations (Web Desk): The World Food Program (WFP) said on Monday that 2.2 million people in the Gaza Strip are still in dire need of urgent aid after 11 months of the Israeli war on the besieged enclave.

It added in a statement on X platform that the repeated Israeli evacuation orders were impeding its efforts in extending aid to the people of Gaza.

The WFP said that the need for food and other aid material is increasing, but the Israeli forced displacement of the people in the Strip hinder the program’s efforts in this regard.
“We need a ceasefire now,” it concluded.

Meanwhile, The United Nations (UN) Human rights chief Volker Turk has urged ending 11-month-long war in Gaza.

Speaking at the opening of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Volker Turk said ending that war and averting a full-blown regional conflict is an absolute and urgent priority.

He cited an opinion released by the UN top court in July that called Israel’s occupation illegal and said this situation must be comprehensively addressed.

At least 40,988 Palestinians have been killed and 94,825 others injured in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza since October 7, the enclave’s health ministry said in a statement, a foreign media outlet reported.
