Bushra Bibi says she 'did not run away' from D-Chowk protest

Charsadda (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi on Friday said that she was left alone at D-Chowk in Islamabad during the crackdown on PTI protesters on November 24.

She stated that after the authorities launched a violent assault on the demonstrators, those leading the protest, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, distanced themselves from her, leaving her isolated and unprotected.

According to reports, the PTI workers were growing increasingly frustrated with the protest's leadership, particularly Bushra Bibi, after they suddenly pulled back in the early hours of November 27.

Despite the chaos, Bushra Bibi had been at the forefront of the rally, advocating for her husband's release and occasionally appearing in public, though her presence was often shielded by veils and large white sheets.

The protest had gained momentum when demonstrators, pushing through numerous obstacles, forced their way to D-Chowk.

However, with the crackdown underway, PTI leaders called for the rally to be suspended.

Speaking to the media, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had accused Bushra Bibi, Gandapur, and others of fleeing the scene after the violent response from the authorities.

In a video that later surfaced, Bushra was seen moving from her car to Gandapur's vehicle, an act that was widely interpreted as an attempt to escape. However, Bushra Bibi clarified that the change of vehicles occurred only because her car had a flat tire, denying any suggestion that she had abandoned the protest.

In a statement made while visiting the family of a deceased PTI worker, Tajuddin in Charsadda, she expressed her deep sorrow over the recent deaths within the party, which had left her confused and emotionally overwhelmed.

She vehemently denied the accusations of running away, saying, "I am not the kind of woman who runs away, especially not from those who came out for Khan."

According to Bushra, she had remained in her car at D-Chowk until 12:30 AM, alone and unsupported.
She claimed that despite her insistence that no one leave her side, others had abandoned her, leaving her vulnerable in the face of the crackdown.

A PTI supporter present at the scene supported her account, vouching for her version of events.
Bushra Bibi also pointed out that those evacuating the area would be able to confirm her story.

She described how her car was targeted with gunfire while she remained at the protest site.
Only after the initial chaos subsided did the rest of the convoy arrive to join her.

Bushra further stated that she was only visiting the families of the deceased because her husband had asked her to do so, adding another layer of personal responsibility to her actions during this difficult time.
