Lahore/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): Cellular services have been suspended in several cities across Pakistan as part of beefed up security measures for Muharram processions and congregations on 8th, 9th and 10th Muharram.
The services has been suspended in Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Khairpur, Shikarpur and other parts of Sindh.
The Sindh government has asked the federal government to suspend the service for 12 hours during 10am to 10pm on Friday (Muharram 8).
In Punjab, the authorities have suspended the services in Faisalabad, Jhelum, Sialkot and Bhukkur and other cities ahead of the congregations.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the cellular phone services have been suspended in Peshawar and other parts to prevent any untoward situation.
Ahead of the Ashura, the mobile phone services will be partially suspended in major cities of the country on 9th and 10th Muharram.
The authorities have also banned pillion riding in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad and other major cities, besides taking strict security measures for the safety of the Muharram processions.
There are also media reports that internet service was also crippled in parts of Karachi city.
