Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the Basant festival will be celebrated safely and joyfully this year, preserving the centuries-old tradition while ensuring a peaceful environment.
Speaking at a review meeting on festival preparations in Lahore on Friday, she emphasized that all arrangements have been completed to allow the public to enjoy the festivities in a secure and vibrant manner.
The chief minister highlighted that strict penalties will be imposed for violations of prescribed kite and string sizes.
To protect approximately one million motorcyclists from kite strings, free protective wires will be provided. Entry of motorcycles into designated red zones without safety rods will not be permitted.
To facilitate public mobility during the celebrations, free transportation will be made available, including 500 buses and rickshaws operating across 24 routes.
Surveillance will be enhanced through drones and the Safe City system, while medical and emergency services, including mobile clinics, ambulances, and fire brigade personnel, will remain fully operational.
Maryam Nawaz underscored that the festival would be conducted in a way that combines traditional enjoyment with modern safety measures, reflecting the government’s commitment to public welfare and cultural preservation.
