Rawalpindi (Web Desk/Agencies): The 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today (Wednesday).
Muhammad Mehfooz was born on October 25, 1944, in the village of Malkan, located in the Rawalpindi district of Pakistan. He spent his early years in the region, receiving his primary education before making the life-altering decision to join the Pakistan Army in 1962.
After completing his Basic Military Training a year later, he was posted to the 15 Punjab Regiment, where his remarkable courage and dedication would eventually carve out his place in the annals of military history.
Over the course of his career, Mehfooz displayed an unwavering commitment to the defense of his country. His actions on the battlefield were characterized by an exceptional blend of bravery and selflessness, earning him recognition as a symbol of valor within the Pakistan Armed Forces.

President Zardari, PM Shehbaz pay tribute to Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid tribute to Lance Naik Mehfooz Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) on the 53rd anniversary of his martyrdom, recognizing his valour and sacrifice to safeguard the country.
The president and prime minister, in their separately issued statements, lauded the exemplary gallantry of Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed in the 1971 war when he repelled the enemy at the Wagah Border.
They prayed to Allah Almighty for the elevation of the rank of Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed in paradise.
“Lance Naik Mehfooz Shaheed fought the enemy with bravery. The entire nation salutes him for his exemplary valour and patriotism. The people of Pakistan recognise the sacrifices of the martyrs which they will never forget,” the president remarked.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Lance Naik Mehfooz Shaheed defeated the enemy despite its overwhelming strength.
“Lance Naik Mehfooz Shaheed proved to be an indomitable symbol of duty and patriotism to protect the country from the evil intentions of the enemies. His commitment to the motherland and the spirit of sacrificing his life for its defense is a model for the new generation to follow,” he said.
The prime minister said that the entire nation was proud of the Pakistan Army’s martyrs and their families and will never forget the armed forces’ sacrifices for the country’s defence.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), the Service Chiefs, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan solemnly commemorate the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, a paragon of extraordinary courage and unwavering patriotism.
“The valor and self-sacrifice displayed by Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed during the 1971 war at the Wagah border epitomize the indomitable spirit of the Pakistan Armed Forces,” an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release said.
“In the face of overwhelming adversity, his fearless assault on enemy positions, despite insurmountable odds, stands as a profound testament to his exceptional bravery and steadfast devotion to the nation. His unparalleled heroism not only exemplifies military excellence but also serves as a timeless embodiment of the resilience and selflessness that define the ethos of our armed forces,” it added.
“On this solemn occasion, we pay tribute to his enduring legacy, which transcends individual achievement and illuminates the collective valor of those who stand resolute in safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan.
