US-Iran deal reached, signing ceremony in Switzerland on Jun 19, announces PM Shehbaz 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that the United States (US) and Iran had finalized a peace agreement, with the formal signing set to be held in Switzerland on June 19.

In a post on X, he shared the development in the following words: “Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.”

He expressed appreciation for both countries for opting for diplomacy and credited the State of Qatar for its key mediation role and leadership in facilitating the breakthrough.

The prime minister also acknowledged the contributions of Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, describing their involvement as important and constructive in moving the process forward.

He added that mediating parties would hold a series of preparatory meetings during the week to set the stage for technical discussions and the eventual signing of the agreement.

PM Shehbaz said that Pakistan actively supported mediation efforts and engaged in backchannel diplomacy to help reduce tensions and promote regional peace.

He noted that both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir remained in continuous contact with relevant stakeholders, consistently encouraging dialogue and a negotiated settlement.

He further recalled that a ceasefire had earlier been agreed upon and later extended at Pakistan’s request as part of broader efforts to de-escalate the situation.

The international community and several global leaders have reportedly praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role, acknowledging its efforts in encouraging stability and contributing to the conditions that enabled the agreement.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump also confirmed the development on his Truth Social account, saying the deal with Iran had been completed.

He wrote: “Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow.”

He described the agreement as a major step that would bring lasting peace and security to the region.
Trump added that previous American presidents had attempted unsuccessfully to reach such an understanding with Iran.

 “The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace. With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World,” Trump added.
