Separatist movement gains strength in India's Manipur state

Imphal/New Delhi (Web Desk): Tensions in India’s northeastern state of Manipur as the separatist movement has gained strength in the state of Manipur due to the extremist and biased policies of the Modi government.

In the latest reported incident, separatist elements are said to have taken control of an important Assam Rifles camp, raising serious questions about the effectiveness and preparedness of Indian security forces.

Videos circulating widely on social media purportedly show armed members of the separatist group entering the fortified Assam Rifles installation without apparent resistance.

The viral clips revealed that the armed individuals were able to move inside the facility freely, while reports claim that Indian troops were forced to retreat from the area. The footage has sparked intense debate online and has been interpreted by some as a setback for India’s defence establishment.

The video circulating on social media also dubbed the Indian Prime Minister, Home Minister and Chief Minister of Manipur as cowards.

Analysts argue that the situation in Manipur has been fuelled by prolonged ethnic violence and what they describe as discriminatory treatment of local communities, which has further deepened mistrust between residents and the central government.

Over the past several months, the region has witnessed sustained unrest, which observers say has now evolved into more organised and armed resistance in certain pockets.
