Ukhrul (Web Desk): Unrest in India’s Manipur state has intensified in recent days as tensions continued over the establishment of a new security post, particularly in Ukhrul district.
According to reports cited by India Today, the situation escalated during a protest in which demonstrators opposed the setting up of the security installation.
During the confrontation, four protesters, including women, were reportedly injured after personnel from the Assam Rifles allegedly opened fire.
The situation in Ukhrul reportedly deteriorated further when security forces resorted to crowd-control measures, including baton charges and aerial firing, in an effort to disperse the protesting crowd. These actions further heightened tensions on the ground.
Local reports indicate that the developments have added to the already fragile security environment in the region, which has been witnessing recurring episodes of unrest linked to administrative and security-related decisions.
