Islamabad (Web Desk): International Day of the Girl Child is being observed today (Friday) across the globe including Pakistan.
This year theme of the day is ‘Girls’ vision for the future’.
This year’s theme conveys both need for urgent action and persistent hope, driven by the power of girls’ voices and vision for the future.
In his message on the International Day of the Girl Child, Federal Minister for Human Rights Azam Nazir Tarar said that the day reminds us of our responsibility to eliminate the barriers they face and equip them with the resources to thrive.
“Today, we celebrate the immense potential of girls in Pakistan and around the world. When we invest in their education, healthcare, and rights, we empower entire generations to lead and create a more equitable world for all,” the minister said.
“At the Ministry of Human Rights, we are committed to safeguarding girls’ rights and ensuring they have every opportunity to become the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow. Let us work together to build a world where every girl can dream and achieve without obstacles, strengthening Pakistan’s future with confident and empowered leaders.

It is pertinent to mention that at the World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, countries unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for the first time in history. This plan was the most progressive blueprint ever proposed for advancing the rights of not only women but also girls.
According to the United Nations (UN), the Beijing Declaration is the first to address girls’ rights.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution 66/170 declaring October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child on December 19, 2011. It aims to address the challenges girls face across the world promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights.
